People re-press

Out now is the repress of the People- Ausentic Oral Communication LP, this time on purple vinyl with a full colour pro-printed A3 poster for their upcoming UK tour and of course the lyric sheet/thanks list from the 1st pressing. Talking of which a few distributors still have copies of the 1st pressing; Soap and Spikes (USA),  Bong/NFL (Holland) and Viral Age (UK). Individual copies of the re-press are available from myself for £8 plus postage and Wholesale is through Noise Punk Records and La Vida Es Un Mus.

It’s the first time one of my releases has had the demand for a 2nd pressing, which I’m particularly pleased about and am hoping that they will sell. You may not be aware but People are probably the best contemporary punk band and people (no pun intended)  who live in the UK are fortunate enough to be able to see the band as they are touring the here in December 2013/January 2014. I also call on all Europeans with impeccable taste in Punk Rock to invade the shores of the UK in support of People. It’s the last time this line-up of the band will be doing anything so don’t miss this opportunity! Tour dates to follow soon.

Other news is the Wankys- Still Love the Noise 7” ep is still available for both individual sales and wholesale. The band are not gigging right now but have been busy (as a two piece) writing new material for our upcoming split 12” with Chaos Channel.

Noise Punk Records will be distributing the Lotus Fucker/ Exit Hippies split LP in Europe and I will also have and the new Chaos Channel 7, Nekromantiker LP and the Disorder- Distort Bristol LP in the distro. Watch this space

A look at PEOPLE.

This review come from the Trakmarx blogspot, which is ran by a guy called Jean Encoule, who's involvement in Punk Rock and music journalism goes right back to the early days of punk. It is so cool that he is still super excited by contemporary music and is yet one more person who realizes that the band PEOPLE are one of the best bands going right now. Check out his blogspot and  Internet based fanzine, especially the Gary Moloney interview. http://trakmarx.com/ I should take this opportunity to mention that the 2nd pressing of the People LP will be here very soon.

If there’s anything approaching a cult band left on this planet in the age of interweb intrusion, it’s People – residents of Oita City, Kyushu Island, Japan. People have existed in one form or another since 2007, releasing one seven inch, a clutch of cassettes and CDRs, and two vinyl LPs.

The first of those LPs – ‘Fairy Tale’ – was a pressing of the band’s legendary demo tape of the same name on Damaging Noise Records – a label widely regarded as rather dodgy, to say the least. This value-judgement was seemingly upheld by the b-side to the vinyl pressing of ‘Fairy Tale’, a barely credible sub-aqua rehearsal tape session that should have been left on the cutting room floor. There are multiple twists and turns to this tale, as any student of People will attest, but, to cut a long story short, People are back, with a new line up, a new record, and a new label: Mr Wanky’s Noisepunk Records.

Entitled ‘Ausentic Oral Communication’ – the sophomore People album is an entirely different beast to ‘Fairy Tale’. If the latter was ‘Very Best Of Hero’ era Swankys worship, the new record mines ‘Never Can Eat Swank Dinner’. Gone is much of the distortion that flooded ‘Fairy Tale’, replaced with a rock’n’roll clarity that allows licks to burst forth from subdued fuzz in an altogether more garage approach. You’ll still find the odd Pistols riff lurking around, you may even hear a Tenpole Tudor reference or two, but you won’t hear any recycled PiL bass lines this time out. In other news, the vocals are more nuanced, the overall vibe more swing than swagger.

Pressed on highlighter yellow vinyl, and packaged with at least one eye on continuity from the artwork to ‘Fairy Tale’, ‘Ausentic Oral Communication’ is eminently flipable, and, like all of what has come before it in this column, has rarely hit the deck with out a rapid rewind. Mr Wanky assures us People are coming to the UK to play shows sometime in the near future, and, being a man of honour, as well as a thoroughly decent chap, I have no reason to doubt him on that score.

The big new here at Noise Punk H.Q. is that People (Japan) will be visiting England at the end of the year/early 2014 for just a few gigs. It's the first time the band has played outside of Japan and it's likely to be the last thing the current line-up of the band will do. Record SHIT Day.

In celebration of “Record Shit Day” Noise Punk Records are pleased to announce the release of the Pistol Joke- We Just Shit 7” ep (Noise Punk 007). 5 songs of drunken Japanese noise punk, sounding somewhere between Chaos UK Burning Britain ep and Gai Extermination ep. If you don’t know those records then you need to wake up and smell the shit. I’m off on tour so contact me next week if you want copies or come and see The Wankys in Scotland this weekend.

The very last of more noise issue 10.

As it unfortunately is, if people don’t know facts then it’s often quite easy for them to make something up, sometimes it has some bearing to reality, though quite often it is somebody’s wank fantasy. Tony G has addressed the issue of disinformation surrounding bands like Sieg Heil, Gai, Swankys, Confuse etc. and what we have here with More Noise issue 10 is a research project based around the history of Kyushu noise punk. Though Tony has decided not to add his own thoughts during this issue (though his line of questioning expresses this to an extent) he has let the bands do the talking. Lots of re-printed stuff from Japanese language DOLL Magazine which have of course been translated into English, as well as recent interviews with our friend Passy (Confuse) and a further hilarious interview with Watch (Swankys). The only negative is that for reasons unknown Tony decided not to print the interview that he did with a member of Kuro from a few years ago. For those with a passing interest in the afore mentioned bands this fanzine is probably not for you, for obsessives like myself this is a modern day bible.

Available from you favourite Punk Rock Emporium.

A reminder that we are in Scotland this weekend
Friday 19th April  13th Note Café, Glasgow with Thisclose, Sufferinfuck and Corrupted Humanity and Happy Spastics. £5 on the door.

Hard to believe that it’s midway through March and The Wankys have not played any gigs so far this year. We have a few lined up over the next couple of months including a weekend in Scotland and playing on day one of this years Scumfest in London, which is apparently a benefit gig to donate free soap to selected members of the audience.

Dates

Saturday 20th April,  Banshee Labrinth, Edinburgh at 9pm. With Happy Spastics and Thisclose, £5 on the door.

Happy New Year

Okay I have a few distro items in stock, check the merchandise page for details. A lot of stuff is very limited. If anyone wants anything then let me know and I'll put it to one side for you.

The Who Killed Spikey Jacket? 12" vinyl is here and I'm just waiting on the covers and inserts, so please be patient and watch this space. No idea whats going on with The Wankys vinyl but hopefully it won't be too long.

I am expecting delivery of some quite special The Wankys merchandise.

If people want to order stuff then why not ask your friends if they are after anything and save on postage costs, makes sense.

Cheers and expect a new update very soon.

People are doing end of year lists so i though I'd mention 12 of the best bands I saw in the past 12 months (in no order).

Thisclose, Great fun, gravecharge
Theiving Bastards, FUN FUN FUN, SMILE SMILE SMILE.
Schizophazia, C.R.A.Z.E. terrible records but amazing live.
Warhead, Destroyers of ears.
Chaos Destroy, great set in Baltimore, new songs, new style
Chaos Channel, where do I start, the greatest.
Some crazy band in Pittsburgh, forgot the name, they were terrible...and great.
Cider, now seeing them on their home turf, with a bassist, with their equipment...it all makes sense.
Krokodil, N.W.O.B.C.
The Love Triangle, 1st time I heard them, great catchy songs.
Sufferinfuck, bloddy hell.
Lotus Fucker, Edinburgh, what a sound!
